Anadolu Efes Released 2014 Sustainability Report

The recently released 2014 Sustainability Report published in accordance with the GRI G4 Guidance and UN Communication on Progress (CoP) discusses Anadolu Efes’ corporate commitments, performance achievements and future goals and.

The report provides an analysis of the outcome of 2008-2015 period of Positive Impact Plan and sets new targets in order to address and tackle future challenges such as climate change.


Anadolu Efes published 2014 Sustainability Report covering all brewery operations in Turkey, Moldova, Russia, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Ukraine. In preparing the report, GRI G4 Guidelines have been primarily employed for indicators shown and methods recommended for qualitative and quantitative sustainability performance monitoring. Performance evaluation indicators, as well as the set of Communication on Progress (CoP) principles defined by UN Global Compact (UNGC), which were adopted in 2011, have also been taken into consideration.

Report highlights the significance of Anadolu Efes’ sustainability efforts in its vision of being the most admired beverage company in operating markets. It also reflects on how in the near future not only should businesses provide products and services that will correspond to the new expectations of new generations, but also how they will be asked to create more jobs, greater prosperity, a higher quality of life in order to overcome social, economic and environmental challenges such as climate change and a shortage of water and food; simply put, a better life than they provide today. Report explains how tomorrow’s world will belong to responsible and accountable businesses and how the Anadolu Efes Positive Impact Plan was adopted to sustain a better life.

Anadolu Efes sustainability efforts ensured in 2014 to enable the following improvements:

In beer production 22% less water and 17% less energy consumption when compared to 2008.
27% less wastewater and 14% less emissions generation.
Waste and by-product recovery rate increase to 95.6%, while reducing packaging use with light-weight and returnable packaging.
Local procurements now accounting for 78.4% by expenditure.
R&D and agricultural support programs underway in Turkey and Moldova to further enhance the value chain.
Efforts through the entire value chain focusing on the goal of combatting climate change.
Headlines from the Report
Some excerpts from Anadolu Efes Sustainability Report on 2014 achievements and 2015 targets are as follows:


Water Management: More sources of clean water will be required to sustain a better life in the future. Every year, Anadolu Efes breweries and malteries consume less water, thus protecting the most valuable raw material for society. Anadolu Efes aims to reduce water consumption per unit produced by 35% by 2015 as compared to 2008. As of 2014, Anadolu Efes is 63% of the way toward achieving this goal.

Energy and Emissions Management: In all its operations, Anadolu Efes is reducing its carbon footprint through the efficient use of energy resources. Anadolu Efes aims to reduce its energy consumption per unit produced by 25% by 2015 as compared to 2008. As of 2014, Anadolu Efes is 66% on the way to achieving this goal.

Enhancing the Value Chain: Thanks to business development projects and agricultural support programs, Anadolu Efes creates a positive impact on the business values of stakeholders, while reinforcing corporate sustainability. Anadolu Efes maintained support for farmers through agricultural support programs in Turkey and Moldova. Anadolu Efes aims to procure all malting barley needed by Anadolu Efes Moldova through local producers as of 2017.

Operational Reliability:

Anadolu Efes strives to create a positive impact by carrying out safe and environmentally sensitive operations. Goal is to achieve zero accident rate and maximize recovery rate for solid waste and by-products. In 2014, Anadolu Efes decreased its injury rate by 18% to 1.33 which was 1.63 in 2013. Solid wastes and by-products recovery increased to 95.6% in 2014 from 94.6% in 2013.

In 2014, Anadolu Efes continued to support the economic and socio-cultural development of its operational geography through practices that contribute to local economies and investments in programs that support education, music, sports, and cultural activities. Talent Management: Anadolu Efes strives to become the most preferred employer by providing a fair work environment where talent is appreciated. After signing UN Global Compact in 2011, Anadolu Efes enhanced its commitment for diversity and equal opportunities by signing Women Empowerment Principles, a joint initiative of UNGC and UN Women. Anadolu Efes increased its training hours per employee, compared to 2013, by 8% to 26.5 hours.
